Last week Chris Nieratko wrote an article about a new photo book about Lenny Kirk by Dennis McGrath. check the link below from Vice Magazine.
Not much gets me as stoked as Lenny Kirk and Alien Workshop around this era. It brings back a great time in my life when I sucked at skating (oh… i still do but now I am older). Lenny’s innovation and raw craze throughout San Francisco really pushed the limits and his Timecode part could be my favorite skate part ever.
enjoy! Now I should buy the photo book and support Dennis and Lenny. I hope he gets the help he needs. Escape Hell.
I used to have a copy of Timecode but I let a friend borrow it and never got it back. dang it.
Oblow will be sharing a selection of his newest and most exciting pieces in resin/mixed media, ranging from 8″ x 8″ to 30″ x 60″ on wood canvas’.

Mark Oblow [o] by Taylor Dunfee
Our friend, Ale has an opening at Casa Electrolux in Sao Paulo, Brazil and it looks to be amazing as per all things, Ale!
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ale Jordao’s art reconfigures and appropriates daily objects from furniture, skateboards to neon signs and rethinks their purpose through his intellectual and emotional design process. Ale vocalizes his own brand of humor and social commentary throughout his works and ultimately with his finished, functional and beautiful pieces. As an example, Ale turns entire Volkswagen cars into beautiful tables, chairs, and other daily objects allowing engagement and interaction with his work. Ale studied at Domus Academy in Milan Italy and is currently making mind-blowing art in his studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil. – ykc
Mark Oblow is the first American artist invited to install the 150ft mural for The WallRide Project in downtown Sao Paolo, Brazil. Stance Socks and filmer Ricki Bedenbaugh capture the interconnectedness we all share through love, family, friends, art, and going skateboarding together with this 4:40 video. Click the link below or the image above.
Born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii and sponsored for both surfing and skateboarding in the 80’s, Oblow’s creative spark was clear when he picked-up the camera and had his first paid photograph published in Thrasher Magazine by age 14. An acute eye for photography, fashion, graphic design, art and penning poetry daily, a natural trajectory towards utilizing all of his tools to create his own artwork has been a constant thread throughout his life. Drawing inspiration from connections with people, Oblow turned his photographs into multi-layered, multi-media pieces, continuously exploring and expanding and essentially immortalizing the people he photographs into stark and beautiful finished pieces. Published in books by Tom Adler to David Carson with openings in California, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Japan. Oblow currently lives in Southern California.
Todd Francis is part of Saturday, January 24th’s opening at Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles for a group in celebration of Seb Carayol‘s book, “Agent Provocateurs.” The opening will be joined by an esteemed list of artists who are featured in the book along with DJ’s Shepard Fairey, Alyasha Owerka-Moore, El Blint and Dimitry Elyashkevich.
